Aircraft Exhaust For A Van's Aircraft RV-10

Shown above is a mockup using an off the shelf automotive header as the primary tubes and locally obtained PVC components used for the mufflers and tail pipes. The appllication is a Van's RV-10 aircraft with a Chevy LS1 installed. This is an unusual configuration for most aircraft exhaust. The majority of aircraft engines are air cooled and are horizontally oppossed, which makes this configuration truely unique.

This aircraft exhaust for a Van's RV-10 was fabricated to the customers PVC mockup. All components were custom made to meet this applications exact design. The mufflers were fabricated with an internal flame tube and utilize a spring loaded ball joint to compensate for engine vibration. Aircraft exhaust tend to have some problematic issues due to extreme engine vibration and expansion issues not typically found in automotive applications. With this smooth running Chevy LS1 engine, it will be interesting to follow this owners results. Since it is in the experimental category, the owner is free to design and build custom aircraft like this one.
